Ingredients

1 pound ground halal beef (80/20 mix)
1 medium yellow onion, finely chopped
8 oz sliced mushrooms
2 cups low-sodium beef broth
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
1/2 tsp garlic powder

Instructions

Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C) if baking
Mix ground beef with salt, pepper, and garlic powder in a bowl
Form into 4 thick patties using your hands
Heat a skillet over medium-high heat; cook patties for 3-4 minutes per side until browned
Remove patties and set aside
In the same skillet, add chopped onions and sauté for 5 minutes
Add mushrooms and cook until softened (4-5 minutes)
Pour in beef broth and bring to a simmer
Sprinkle flour into the skillet and whisk until a roux forms
Gradually stir in broth mixture and simmer for 5 minutes until thickened
Place patties in the gravy, let simmer 2-3 more minutes to soak up flavor
Serve hot with rice or crusty bread

Notes

Use a meat thermometer to ensure patties reach 160°F
Add fresh thyme or Worcestershire sauce (certified alcohol-free) for extra flavor
Replace beef broth with halal vegetable broth for vegetarian option
Grease skillet first for juicier results
