Description
Capture the essence of summer with this classic Old Fashioned Peach Jam. This beginner-friendly recipe uses the simple magic of fresh, sun-ripened peaches, lemon juice, and pectin to create a golden, flavorful spread. Perfect for topping morning toast, crackers, or gifting to friends and family, this jam is a cherished pantry staple that avoids preservatives and captures fruit at its absolute peak.
Ingredients
4 cups chopped fresh peaches
1/4 cup bottled lemon juice
1.75 oz powdered pectin
5 cups granulated sugar
Instructions
Peel peaches and chop into 1/2 to 1-inch pieces.
Combine peaches and lemon juice in a large, heavy-bottomed pot.
Stir in the powdered pectin and bring mixture to a hard rolling boil over high heat.
Boil for 2 to 3 minutes, using a potato masher to reach desired consistency.
Stir in all the sugar at once and boil hard again until sugar is fully dissolved.
Remove from heat, skim off any foam, and pour into sterile jars.
Notes
Ensure you use bottled lemon juice for consistent acidity. Do not reduce the sugar amount, as it is essential for the pectin to set the jam properly. Store in the refrigerator for immediate use or process in a water bath canner for shelf-stable storage.
