Description

Experience the warmth of autumn with this aromatic, homemade apple cider. Using a blend of fresh apples, zesty citrus, and classic spices, this comforting beverage fills your home with the essence of fall. Perfect for chilly afternoons, this natural and customizable recipe delivers a deeper, richer flavor than any store-bought alternative, making it a wonderful tradition for your family.

Ingredients

10-12 fresh apples (mix of Gala, Fuji, and Granny Smith)
1 orange, sliced thin
1 lemon, sliced thin
1 whole cinnamon stick
1 teaspoon whole cloves
1 cup granulated sugar
8-10 cups water

Instructions

Wash the apples thoroughly and quarter them, leaving peels and cores intact.
Place apples, orange slices, lemon slices, cinnamon stick, cloves, and sugar into a large heavy-bottomed pot.
Pour cold water over the fruit until just covered (about 8-10 cups).
Bring to a rolling boil over medium-high heat.
Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 120 minutes.
Every 30 minutes, use a potato masher to crush the fruit to release juices.
Strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth into a clean container, discarding solids.
Serve warm.

Notes

Store in the refrigerator for up to one week. You can adjust the sugar to taste depending on the natural sweetness of your apple selection. For a stronger spice profile, add a star anise or extra cinnamon stick.
