Description
Transform ordinary carrots into a smoky, sweet delicacy with this easy grilling recipe. Perfect for busy weeknights, these carrots are tossed in a luscious glaze of honey, brown sugar, and melted butter, resulting in a caramelized finish that is universally loved by both children and adults. The high heat of the grill creates a charred, tender texture, making this the perfect side dish for any family dinner.
Ingredients
1 pound whole carrots
1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
2 tablespoons butter
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup honey
1/8 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon orange juice
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
Instructions
Preheat your grill to 450 degrees Fahrenheit, setting up for direct and indirect cooking zones.
Peel the carrots and slice any thick ones lengthwise so they are uniform.
Toss the carrots with olive oil in a bowl until evenly coated.
Place carrots over direct heat and grill for 10-12 minutes, turning occasionally until tender and marked by char.
Create the glaze by melting butter in a small saucepan over medium heat; stir in brown sugar, honey, salt, orange juice, and cinnamon until smooth.
Brush the glaze generously over the carrots during the final 3-5 minutes of grilling, moving them to indirect heat if the glaze begins to darken too quickly.
Remove from the grill once glazed and serve warm.
Notes
Ensure carrots are of similar thickness to guarantee even cooking. Use dark brown sugar for a deeper molasses flavor if desired. If you do not have a grill, this can be replicated in a cast-iron grill pan on the stove.
