Description
Transform fresh morel mushrooms into golden, crispy delights with this simple yet gourmet recipe. Perfect as an appetizer or side dish, it delivers a satisfying crunch and earthy flavor.
Ingredients
12 ounces to 1 pound fresh morels, cleaned and sliced
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon kosher salt
2 teaspoons ground black pepper
2 cups vegetable oil (for frying)
Instructions
Clean the morel mushrooms by brushing away dirt and slicing large ones in half.
In a bowl, combine the flour, kosher salt, and ground black pepper.
Dredge each morel in the flour mixture, coating thoroughly but shaking off excess.
Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
Fry the mushrooms in batches to avoid crowding, turning once to ensure even browning. Cook until golden and crisp, about 2-3 minutes per side.
Transfer the fried morels to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
Serve hot as an appetizer or side dish.
Notes
Ensure mushrooms are thoroughly dry before frying to avoid oil splattering.
For extra flavor, drizzle with a little lemon juice or garlic aioli before serving.
Store any leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days, though they’re best enjoyed fresh.
