Description

This comforting one-skillet meal features savory, smoky beef or poultry kielbasa paired with velvety, caramelized cabbage. It is a humble, rustic dish that brings warmth to any weeknight dinner. With minimal cleanup and simple, budget-friendly ingredients, this nutrient-dense meal provides a satisfying balance of protein and greens that tastes even better as leftovers.

Ingredients

16 ounces beef or turkey kielbasa, sliced into quarter-inch rounds
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 tablespoon butter
1 medium yellow onion, thinly sliced
1 medium green cabbage, cored and thinly sliced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon smoked paprika
Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

Place a large heavy-bottomed skillet or cast-iron pan over medium-high heat and add the olive oil.
Add the sliced kielbasa to the skillet and cook until browned on both sides, then remove and set aside.
In the same skillet, add the butter and sliced onions, sautéing until translucent.
Add the sliced cabbage to the skillet and cook, stirring occasionally, until it begins to soften and caramelize.
Stir in the minced garlic and paprika, cooking for one minute until fragrant.
Return the browned kielbasa to the pan, toss everything together, and cook for another 3-5 minutes until heated through.
Season with salt and pepper to taste before serving.

Notes

Ensure you slice the cabbage thinly to achieve a silky texture. If the cabbage is drying out, add a splash of water or broth to help it steam while cooking. This dish stores exceptionally well in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
