Description
Homemade lasagna with tender pasta layers, rich beef and veal sausage meat sauce, creamy ricotta filling, and melted mozzarella. A hearty, customizable comfort dish perfect for family dinners or gatherings.
Ingredients
12 lasagna noodles (oven-ready or boiled as per package)
2 lbs ground beef
1 lb Italian sausage (non-pork or halal option)
1 chopped onion
3 minced garlic cloves
28 oz marinara sauce
1 cup fresh basil (chopped)
2 cups ricotta cheese
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp black pepper
1 large egg
1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
8 oz mozzarella cheese (sliced or shredded)
1/4 cup breadcrumbs
1 tbsp olive oil
Instructions
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C)
In a skillet, heat olive oil then cook ground beef and Italian sausage over medium heat until browned; drain fat. Add onion, garlic, and cook for 5 minutes.
Stir in marinara sauce, fresh basil, salt, and pepper. Simmer meat sauce for 20 minutes (cover if desired for thicker consistency).
In a bowl, mix ricotta, egg, 1/4 tsp salt, and 1/2 cup Parmesan. Season with pepper.
Layer lasagna: Spread 1/2 cup meat sauce at the bottom of a 9×13-inch dish. Add lasagna sheets, ricotta mixture, sauce, and mozzarella slices. Repeat layers, finishing with a top layer of sauce, mozzarella, and remaining Parmesan.
Bake covered for 25 minutes, then uncovered for 15 minutes until bubbly. Let rest 10 minutes before serving.
