Description

These air fryer apple fries are a nostalgic, delicious treat that perfectly captures the warm, spiced flavors of a classic dessert. Featuring a crispy, golden-brown panko exterior and a tender, naturally sweet center, they are the ideal snack for the whole family. By using the air fryer, you get a beautiful crunch without the mess of traditional frying. Simple to prepare and easy to customize with your favorite spices, these fries are a quick way to satisfy your sweet tooth using wholesome, pantry-friendly ingredients.

Ingredients

4 large firm apples (Honeycrisp or Granny Smith recommended)
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 large egg
2 tablespoons milk
1 cup panko breadcrumbs
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Nonstick cooking spray

Instructions

Peel apples if desired and slice into uniform sticks about half an inch thick.
Pat the apple sticks dry with a paper towel to ensure the coating adheres properly.
Set up a three-bowl breading station: place flour in the first, whisk together egg and milk in the second, and combine panko, sugar, and cinnamon in the third.
Coat each apple stick in flour, dip into the egg mixture, then roll in the panko mixture until evenly covered.
Arrange the apple fries in the air fryer basket in a single layer, ensuring they do not overlap.
Lightly mist the fries with nonstick cooking spray.
Air fry until the crust is golden brown and the apples are tender.
Remove carefully and serve warm.

Notes

Ensure apple sticks are sliced to a consistent size for even cooking. For extra flavor, you can add a pinch of nutmeg or ground ginger to the panko mixture. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container, though they are best enjoyed fresh to maintain maximum crispiness.
